The
Bible tells of many things we know of in this life which will
expire when eternity dawns, and time is no more. Sorrow,
tears, pain, suffering, sickness, death, and sin of every sort
will be forever gone. Though not mentioned explicitly, I
am certain that dreams and devices will likewise pass off the
scene, as the scenery reverts from the Fall of man, to a Summer
of splendor in HIS SON beyond all comprehension. Besides,
just what would one have either the time, or desire, to devise in
Heaven? Is not the root in which devices find their dreams always in some area of unfulfillment, or dissatisfaction?
"... be content
with such things as ye have: for HE hath said, I will never
leave thee, nor forsake thee."
If honest, a right relationship with CHRIST is the most
consummate thing known to us; but let our affections sink, and
the fodder for this lack of fulfillment abounds. Only when
we obey the command to set our
"affections on things above", do we hearken unto the
steadfast "counsel of the LORD".
If any of our aspirations are ever to be realized, they must
have their basis in the Word of GOD, and their fulfillment in
the GOD of HIS Word.
"The LORD bringeth the
counsel of the heathen to nought: HE maketh the devices of the
people of none effect."
Remember, man came together as one at Babel, but left there in a
thousand different directions.
"HE disappointeth the
devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their
enterprise." All the
devices which you discover in your heart must be prayerfully strained
through the screen of Scripture. That which is retained is
the gold of HIS promise; that which runs through, the silt of
silly dreams; the things nightmares, and day-mares are made of.
Let the latter go, for it flows to the 'Dead Sea' of all
of man's futile devices apart from GOD.
"Lo, this only have I
found, that GOD hath made man upright; but they have sought out
many inventions." Give no
ear to the imagination of that which you know GOD will never
bring to pass; it is a device of wasted time, a watch reading right
but
twice a day! Seek instead the sure
"counsel of the LORD, that shall stand"
... the test of time and eternity.
"A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his
steps."
