One of the clearest evidences of sin’s
insanity is the outright eagerness all around us to call good
bad, and bad, good. “Woe unto
them that call evil good, and good evil …”. To
say that we live in confusing times doesn’t do justice to the
depth of depravity coming out of every closet, seeking to be
justified. “And this is the
condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved
darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light …”
Ungodly men under the indictment of an all righteous GOD have
consistently chosen the course of denial down through history.
When Eve wanted to justify her sin, it was that evil serpent’s
fault; when Adam was cornered, it was not his bad, but GOD’S for
“the woman WHOM THOU gavest to be with
me”. When Abraham sinned with Sarah’s handmaid
Hagar, they justified it. When Jacob lied to his father
Isaac, he justified it. When Joseph’s brothers sold him
into slavery, they justified it. When Moses missed out on
the promise land for his anger, he justified it. When the
riotous mob before Pilate’s praetorian screamed for the blood of
their MESSIAH, they justified it. When the Romans
arrested, and eventually beheaded the greatest evangelist the
world has ever known, they justified it … and this same genetic
trait can easily be traced right down to us today. There
is enough spent each year litigating man’s unwillingness to be
truthful, to assuage the national debt; and yet man holds
tenaciously to his
grip of self justification!
“… for truth has fallen in the street,
and equity cannot enter.” We thrive it seems,
on lying to ourselves regarding evil and its consequences; and
with each lie, the assault on truth takes its toll while a
jeering world cheers its retreat. Praise be to GOD, and in
spite of all this, there is a thin bloodline of truth suspended
over the chasm of Hell to escape all this.
“But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and
continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer
… shall be blessed”.
All who come to Liberty’s Law with their warrants of sin, and
handcuffs of assumption, will find the tables turned, and that
which they came to bind, will turn out to be their Judge to sentence.
“The
SPIRIT of the LORD GOD is upon ME; because the LORD hath
anointed ME to preach good tidings to the meek; HE hath sent ME
to bind …”
