The absence of war or other hostilities.
Though difficult to
date, man's original peace with GOD was short-lived.
Obedience is always the term of peace with any authority; and
grievous err occurs when we hear, but fail to obey:
"But be ye doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
The LORD said: "do not" and Eve did, Eve said: "do" and
Adam did ... and peace was forfeited.
"Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it
is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." The
longest running battle in history broke out that day in Eden and continues
to the present.
"In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of
the glorious gospel of CHRIST, who is the image of GOD, should
shine unto them." There is an insidious oblivion which is innate to sin's pride.
Men fighting and dying all around us as we deny the war even
exists. Is there a reason we hide our cemeteries off of
the beaten path? In spite of what you may have heard at
the funeral, of deluded yourself to believe out of emotion, the
'Dearly Departed' ... apart from saving faith in JESUS CHRIST,
will never rest in peace, no matter how many oak trees shade
their grave. Isaiah writes:
"There is no peace, saith my GOD, to the
wicked." In writing to Rome, Paul elaborates a
bit further, stating the underlying problem.
"And the way of peace have they not known:
There is no fear of GOD before their eyes." To the
victor goes not only the spoils, but also the terms of peace.
The most arrogant and obtuse sue for peace while insisting on a war
footing of unrepentant sin.
Many sinners seek just
enough peace in the vain attempt to appease, but there is no
piece of peace. If this is you, a caveat is in order. John
the Revelator pens the following words to depict a soon time
when GOD'S gracious offer of peace will end.
"And there went out another horse that
was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take
peace from the earth, ...
From cradle to grave,
the ONE MEDIATOR of peace between GOD and man is
HIS only begotten SON, JESUS.
"Glory to GOD in the highest, and on earth peace, good will
toward men." The terms are set,
the ink is dry, and CHRIST awaits your humble acknowledgement of
what is nonnegotiable.
