Our spirit is critical to
every facet of our existence. It is gyroscopic by nature,
and every bit as delicate and instrumental to our destination.
Bump it, even ever so slightly, and the course of your life
immediately becomes erratic. The spirit of man is not
merely high maintenance, it is who we are, our very essence.
“And you hath HE quickened, who were
dead in trespasses and sins;” Pre-salvation, our
spirit is stillborn, the murder victim of our father Adam.
“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the
SPIRIT in the bond of peace.” Once revived in
CHRIST however, ours is inhabited by HIS SPIRIT, and we are
charged with HIS keep. "And grieve not
the HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption." Sin spends its days and nights
building siege ramps against our lives; and if not repelled, it
rushes in and becomes the great Goliath to our spirit.
"Quench
not the Spirit.” Of a truth, our relationship with HIS SPIRIT, or
the absence thereof, is the sole determinant of our spirit, our
spiritual condition, and thus our life and eternity.
“Create in me a clean heart, O GOD; and renew a right spirit
within me.”
King David, in his sin with
Bathsheba, learned this law of the spirit the hard way.
But from the ashes of another’s sin, is the opportunity to
benefit from it. Three good morals from David's own words
and the lack of rule he exerted over his own spirit are:
-
“Create … O GOD”
A
clean heart and a right spirit are the supernatural work of
the only ONE WHO holds creational power.
-
“in me”
A clean heart
and a right spirit must be personal. The humble
agreement with GOD over sin is the key to unlock HIS
creative power.
-
“and renew”
A clean heart
and a right spirit is the CREATOR’S most renewable resource of grace
and life.
A clean heart renders us
right with man, a right spirit renders us clean with GOD; and
when these are in place in our lives, they are unmistakable on
every plane!
“Keep yourselves in the love of GOD, looking for the mercy of
our LORD JESUS CHRIST unto eternal life.”
