Joshua paid for internal
deceit at Ai with the lives of 36 of his own soldiers. Next
comes the external deceit of the Gibeonites and Joshua once
again antes up disobedience to GOD. The question
begs:
How could someone with Joshua's experience and position
blunder into such stupidity time and again? Was he naive?
Was he gullible? Was he arrogant? Was he inept?
Yes! ... but who among us has not stood occasionally before the
Throne of Grace with a red face?
The
victorious Christian life commands utter sobriety and vigilance
(1 Peter 5:8).
To play fast and loose in this commandment is the stage of the
stupid!
The battleground for truth
and righteousness is strewn with maimed believers given to
gullibility. The Christian who lays aside his armor to
entertain the dance of the fool impedes the advance of the cause
of CHRIST. Israel would conquer Canaan all together or not
at all ... and thus it be with the Church in her conquest for the
souls of men.
