Organize Living Room
She looketh well to the ways of her
household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27
Life gets busy so it is easy to end up with a
cluttered home and a cluttered mind. But...1 step at a
time...1 day at a time...1 room at a time we can win the war against
clutter without feeling overwhelmed in the process. We don't
normally have an abundance of time to tackle big projects.
Therefore, we are breaking this down to little tasks that can be
accomplished each day. If you don't get through this list
during the week, do not be discouraged. Start where you left
off the next time you are concentrating on the Living Room.
Monday:
Identifying items that belong in your Living room
and remove items that don't belong in this room at all.
- Take a few minutes to go through and pick up items that
don't belong in this room all of the time and put them away.
For example, extra shoes or coats? How about extra clothing
items or dishes that need returned to the kitchen?
Tuesday:
Organize and sort through books, newspapers,
and magazines.
- Sort through books and magazines. Donate or toss the books
and magazines that are no longer really used. For example, if
there are magazines that you are keeping just for that one
recipe or article. Clip and file the recipe or article in the
room you would most likely want to reference it from.
Wednesday:
Organize Entertainment Center.
- Return movies and music to proper cases.
- Donate movies and music no longer used. Throw away any
damaged movies or music.
- Organize movies and music by type and alphabetical within
type for easy access.
Thursday:
Children's toys or games.
- Keep the most commonly played games or toys in a labeled bin
for each child on a shelf. Develop a system of one-in and
one-out so that the bin is never overflowing. When one of the
children want to keep a new toy in the bin, teach them to take
another toy from the bin back to their toy box. If they have
out grown the toy donate it, or throw away if damaged.
Friday: Room Decorations.
- If wall space, table tops, and the room in general is too
cluttered with decorations, consider picking themes or color
schemes for each season.
