| Joshua:
The Face of the
SPIRIT |
 |
"And ye shall
compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus
shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark
seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city
seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets." Joshua
6:3-4

"We must go vertical in
our quest for new ground as Christians"
|
The conquering of Jericho is a
powerful example of GOD'S words in Isaiah 55:8-9:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither
are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are
higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my
thoughts than your thoughts."
Jericho was an imposing city,
built on a hill and ringed not just with one wall but two, the outer
being 6' thick, and the inner 12'. Timbers were laid across
these walls supporting houses, one of which was Rahab's, the harlot
turned helper.
To suggest this city be destroyed and taken by merely marching
around it was beyond unorthodox, it was ludicrous to any rational
military strategist! What would normally take months or even
years to win by besiege in the plan of men would be accomplished
GOD'S way in one week without firing a shot. Joshua would need to forget the
victories East of the Jordon and trust GOD to a new level at
Jericho.
It is said that common sense
is very uncommon. However, I would take issue with that, observing that
common sense is not only common, it is ubiquitous. While to be
expected of the worldling, common sense is cancerous in the church
and the enemy of THE SPIRIT OF GOD.
Failures occur when we fail to
stay the course. Too often we deify common sense and neglect to
show up after a couple of days compassing the ground GOD wants us to
gain in our Christian life. Hang in there with those who lead spiritually. See it
through to its miraculous conclusion walking in the SPIRIT, not the
flesh.
Great spiritual victories
are not won on the horizontal. We must go vertical in our quest for new
ground as Christians launching all on the SPIRIT. Leap to your
knees and watch GOD bring down the walls which stand in your way. How's your vertical leap? |
